Project: Southern Tier Episode 3

Picture
Episode 3

Ride FROM: Alpine, TX TO: New Orleans, LA.

Focus:  Why Organic / Christianity & Environment / Erosion / Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Surge Barrier / The Dead Zone

A few days into bicycling across the state of Texas Jeff and Mike arrive at the Marfa Public Radio Station to share their experience on a cross-country bike ride and to explain their reasons for attempting it.

Flu and Cold plague Jeff and Mike at separate times from the Big Bend to Brownsville.  Decisions are made to save time because scheduled interviews from leading scholars on Erosion and The Dead Zone in New Orleans are set.  If Hyland can’t be there on time he’ll have to make some tough decisions.

From Corpus Christi, TX to Baton Rouge, LA Hyland begins collecting different Christian perspectives as they relate to the environment.  What do religious leaders have to say about conservation, stewardship and lessons from the bible that speaks to, “Tending the garden”?

In Baton Rouge and New Orleans Hyland gets an opportunity to sit down with the regions brightest minds on Erosion and The Dead Zone.  Hear how these issues threaten public safety and how the Army Corps is responding; with the largest civil works project in history.
